I was a minister in a non-denominational ministry that specialized in Biblical Research for 15 years.  When the group imploded in the mid 1980’s, I along with many others were thrust into a state of confusion and re-evaluation of my life’s purpose and calling.  I went through  a period of unlearning and finally began the process of first healing and then growth.

After a number of years selling various things in a vain attempt to “make a living”, I determined that my reason for being on this earth had to go back to the original calling of God and not selling cars, books or dog supplies.  Ignoring pleas from family and friends to “give up the religious stuff and get a real job”; I have attempted to stay true to my heart’s calling for the last 15 years.

In 1997 I started suffering major heart problems that included heart attacks and later bypass surgery and complications from that surgery.  The years 1997-2002 were not pleasant and were filled with far more terrible days physically than days I felt well enough to do much of anything.  Although I feel better now, I still face monumental physical challenges at times.

I was my mother’s official caregiver for a number of years until she passed away in 2006.  I feel that my greatest learning in life came in devoting most of my energy and strength to helping one other person live her final years of life being well cared for instead of cooped up in a nursing home.  As difficult as that stretch of time was due to mental and physical conditions; it taught me humility and how fulfilling selfless service to others really is.

For a season I traveled around the country trying to find help for victims of natural disasters.  I started a group called “Heart 2 Heart Share” for the purpose of locating and distributing resources for other groups helping those in need.  Although I don’t travel that much anymore ; I remain extremely interested in disaster relief and community outreach programs and seek to highlight them and continue to solicit resources for various groups I know God led me to back when I put 60,000 miles on my van in a year.

When I started having health problems again and when the funds ran out to travel, I decided the one thing I can do to be a blessing to others is to share my life, my thoughts and my research with others through blogs.  Not only do I write this blog on Word Press, I also have a companion blog “spiritual food for thought” on Word Press for mostly spiritual posts .  I try to share my heart as much as possible, especially on my heart2heart share site; for it is all I have to share.

I was a minister who received extensive training in Biblical studies and leadership back in the early 1970’s.  I served in various positions within a ministry for 10 years.  In the mid 1980’s, my life hit rock bottom including divorce and bankruptcy.  In the twenty years since those dark days of despair and hopelessness, I have grown in wisdom and understanding concerning life and relationships.  I have sought to better myself through independent research of many things I feel are wrongly covered by the media.

In a word, I consider myself an independent thinker, who only wants to see those who have been oppressed and abused in this life receive justice and help.  I promote no one’s cause, including my own, and seek to deliver wisdom and insight through these posts.  Although my opinions may be quite controversial at times, it is only because I refuse to “follow the leader” on matters.  If I think something is not right, I will do all I can to find the facts and then the truth.

Above all else, I am a Christian and not ashamed to say it.  I am not a fan of church or of the major denominations.  I believe Christianity is way of life not a religion and that a Christian should give of the life he is blessed with and not hide his light for fear of offending others or of being ridiculed for being who he is.  I seek only to glorify my God and serve my Lord and Savior in all I do.  I seek nothing for myself and receive nothing for anything I do for others.  God bless you and thanks for reading.

Wonderful comment! It’s interesting after 23 days that you haven’t gotten any response positive or negative. I found your blog when I did the following search, “spiritual blessings not physical ones”. I’m in total agreement with you. There are no physical blessing in the New Covenant and we shouldn’t be surprised to find our prayers for such unanswered.

As you said, the Old Covenant promised physical blessing but they aren’t found in the New. The Old Covenant is outlined as follows:

Parties: God and Israel (Blood decedents of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob)
Terms: Israel was to follow the 613 laws of Moses.
Promises: God gave physical blessings if Israel followed the covenant and curses if they didn’t. (Deuteronomy 28-29)

Israel was blessed as a nation when they followed the covenant. Under Solomon they had control of all the land promised to them and were exceedingly rich and powerful. Afterward they began to follow false gods and received the curses outlined in Deuteronomy culminating in their destruction in A.D. 70. The Old Covenant was replaced with the New.

The New Covenant is outlined as follows:

Parties: God and anyone who is “in Christ”. (Hears, believes, repents, confesses and is baptized into Christ)
Terms: The believer is to live “like Christ”. (Primarily love God with all your heart and your neighbor as yourself and be involved in the ministry of reconciliation.)
Promises: The believer will be “with Christ”. (The believer receives all spiritual promises like forgiveness of sins, eternal life and becoming God’s child).)

The promises are qualified as spiritual ones. (Hebrews 8:6, Romans 15:27, Ephesians 1:3, James 2:5)

The great error of the church of this generation is the mixing of the promises of the two covenants and a focus on “physical blessings.” Thus the prayers we hear in our churches are for physical things like healings, jobs and money when we ought to be focusing our prayers on God’s guidance and Christlike living. Jesus taught us to pray for our enemies, and to pray so that we not fall into temptation. Contentment with just “our food and clothing” like Paul instructs is hardly preached.

The prayer of Jabez is an example of the misuse of the Old Testament like a magic incantation said over and over again to get whatever we want. It makes for weak Christians who never grow beyond “God bless me! God bless me!” So they are disappointed and disillusioned when their prayers go unanswered and their lives fall apart in sexual sin, divorce, greed, anger, and resentment and they never find the peace and contentment that we should have in Christ.

I totally stopped praying for physical things 10 years ago and I haven’t found any difference at all in my physical well being (not counting physical problems that come with old age). What I don’t have is the anxiety and stress that comes with worrying about money and physical ailments.

I am content with the spiritual promises I am receiving. Nothing else is necessary. So now I can focus on living like Jesus and spreading his word to others.

I also read your “about me” blog. We’ve got a lot in common. It would be nice to chat with you sometime.

    God bless,

I am a bible college student going to a nondenominational bible college and we definately believe in the five fold ministry. i must thank you for giving me much information to be able to help prepare my pulpit speech. i have chosen poverty spirit to speak on. For if we do not teach our young ones how to manage the changes hopw can we ever expect them to make it in the world. It isnt baout the best but just think since 1970 (the birth time for the parents of the next generation) the cost of a new house is 10.5 times as much as in 1970. We much teach the nest generation how to budgeting and live a Godly way with tithing and affering adn still show them that the American cream is possible as long as God is the head of their household. Thanks and God bless

This is what bothers me about Western Capitalist hijacked Christianity…

“still show them that the American cream is possible as long as God is the head of their household. Thanks and God bless”

The American Dream is the catalyst of the oppression, deliberate and brutal of so many underdeveloped and developed nations [people] of the world…in other words,

this whole idea of God blessing us with wealth, do you Realize, the BLOOD OF INNOCENTS that is the foundation,

of the American Wealth system? Do you have Any idea of just how many women, children, men are enslaved for our so called prosperity? Raped, beaten, tortured, killed so that, we can have wealth?

Please, just do some research on the sweatshop industry, just that one example in itself, it proof that our ‘goal to maintain and acquire wealth’ in this nation, is the banality of evil that is yes, part of that whole system of anti-christ. There is a reason the Bible says you can’t have both the Love of God and the Love of Mammon [money] at the same table…

and that Idolatry that has hijacked the Christian West, is the influence that has aided in the growth of Islam worldwide [that and the love of patriarchy/misogyny in the west].

If Christians in America really knew, just how our government to protect capitalism and that ‘lets be blessed by God’ prosperity worship has aided the most brutal despotic governments out there, from South America to Central America to Middle East to Asia, even former Soviet Union/bloc countries,

how our system has aided in both Military Aid, training military regimes/police to RAPE, GANG RAPE, TORTURE -INCLUDING TORTURE OF BABIES AND CHILDREN, citizens who just want to be able to feed their families [just do some research on Honduras, it That doesn’t wake the Love of Christ in you towards those people, NOTHING WILL],

if Christians knew the truth, they wouldn’t be praying for prosperity, they’d be praying for an end to the banality of the evil equivalent to the modern day ROMAN EMPIRE that has killed millios worldwide via geo-political racism, misogyny, support of the most horrid of regimes in human right abuses and Especially horrid women and children’s rights abuses [both right and left wing, fascism is fascism],

    if they only knew…

but I think, many don’t Want to know. Its easier to attribute the misery of millions on their sin and beliefs [as if our sins are less than, this Christ died for all but has special favor for Americans, White male Americans especially mentality] that the ‘other’ is more evil, amoral, dehumanized,

if there was Any proof that the end times is here, its in that the ‘very elect’ has been deceived. Its not just New Age that one should be concerned about,

its the Idolatry of MATERIALISM that has infected the modern day Church like a cancer…

if Jesus were to come to America today, I truly think, America would be that money exchange table in the temple,

and Jesus would throw it aside…just as He did then. Because its the same exact evil that it was back then…with the scribes and scholars that not only ruled with their religious sanctimonious patriarchal views oppressing the poor,

they also [if you ever studied political history] sold their own people out to the Romans, to maintain and preserve,

    their privilege status and

PROSPERITY–all under God’s blessing and God’s People ideology.

funny how nothing really changes, just the machinery and the people who operate and perpetuate it does…

I’ve just found your blog and I’m looking forward to reading more

I thank God for you and your walk with Him. Thank you for your obedience to Him in everything. You have shown faith in your trials and God will bless you eternally. I agree with you. My husband and I have a ministry like yours. Our website is http://www.worldfaithoutreach.com
I had found your website when I did a google search “Where are the missing people in Galveston.” No one had been talking about it and it has upset my spirit. It has also grieved me that the media has been silenced regarding it. I know there are people mourning for those people. When I read your blog it was exactly how I felt. When I read about you, I see why.
    Your reward is eternal.

“Do not be afraid; keep on speaking, do not be silent. For I am with you, and no one is going to attack and harm you, because I have many people in this city.” Acts 18:10
“Do not be afraid…I am your shield, your very great reward.” Ge. 15:1

    God Bless You,

    Dear Brother,

I am Waseem Yousaf from Pakistan. I have studied your web site, and I found it the most wonderful site to get right to the True Word of God. My suggestion for you is to create your material in my language of Urdu and Punjabi also. It will bring lots of blessings of the Word of God for the Pakistani and Indian Urdu and Punjabi speaking people. For that purpose I as a translator will bring your material into Urdu languages and into Punjabi language as well. Although it will take your low expenses as well, as fund for the Word of God to reach out to the deserving people. I my self, work on a local radio station also. Many times it becomes difficult for us to keep doing this because of being minorities and because of the lack of the financial resources. I will wait for your response.

    Waseem Yousaf (Pakistan).

Hey brother. I was an associate pastor in the Nazarene Church from early 2002 to mid 2005. I was kicked out from there, because of my pentecostal ways. I left there with the same confusion, but following God all the way and seeking Him deeper and now I have a ministry to many nations where I have seen thousands of healings, salvations and deliverances. Sounds like you found a calling as well, I also had to take care of my mother in the last days of her life too. I am married with two daughters who are also married with a grandchild on the way.

    God Bless you brother
