Living without fear no matter what happens to us or around us

I learned long ago that the one of the enemy’s favorite ploys when it comes to God’s people is to lull them into a false sense of security which leads to letting one’s guard down. Whether a person, family, church or nation; letting one’s guard down is an open invitation for bad things to happen.

In both the Old and New Testaments are incidents resulting from becoming lax or exhortations to not become that way. God’s Word specifically brings this topic up many times in the epistles of Paul and Peter. The whole idea of being “sober” implies the mind is not under the influence of any agent which would make it dull, sleepy or delusional.

The only thing which keeps our minds sharp and alert is the Word of God living in us for the Word of God is sharper than any two edged sword. It is so easy to neglect spiritual matters in our lives due to our schedules and responsibilities. This is why we must make the effort to read and meditate upon the Word of God just as we take the time to clean the house, cook meals and watch television.

The Bible tells us in 1 Thessalonians 5 that the Day of the Lord shall came as thief in the night catching most people by complete surprise. In fact, while people are saying “peace and safety”, sudden destruction shall overtake them as labor in a woman about to deliver a child. Jesus said that just as in the days of Noah, people will be eating and drinking and partying right up to the moment He comes again.

What if you awoke tomorrow to news that a nuclear device had been detonated and destroyed much of a major United States city? Would not everything change in life because of this one event? Suddenly everything we think is so important would become irrelevant. Suddenly the freedom we take for granted would be gone and life as we have come to know it would end.

I do not know what is going to happen but I sense there is much to be very concerned about due to the tension building on the Korean Peninsula. The question each one of us must ask ourselves is whether we are ready for whatever comes next in our own lives or the world. Have we put on the whole armor of God and stand prepared for whatever the enemy does? Have we girded up the loins of our minds so we can be strong when everyone around us is wilting in fear?

I refuse to yield to fear and I will never compromise what I know to be the truth no matter what may or may not happen in this world. I have spent years preparing for the day people will finally be ready to accept the truth because their world is falling apart around them. I can think of no greater exhortation for all of us than what is found in the latest recording from Chris Tomlin.
